The TinTabernacle, the sea cadets' home in north London, at 12-16 Cambridge Avenue, NW6 5BA, Kilburn, (map) is a Grade II listed building of special architectural importance which was built in 1863. It has been the home of the Willesden & St Marylebone Cadet Corps for almost 70 years (email for sea cadet information: firstname.lastname@example.org ), and since the building is in need of restoration and repair, the sea cadets' managing committee have set up the Conservation & Restoration sub Committee to put together a business plan to acquire funds to put the premises right and run them as a community association and resource for them and the people of Kilburn.
A fascinating work by film makerAnna Bowman can be found here . It is a ten minute film showing the work of the cadets and the history of the building which is in dire need of restoration.
Our area, the London Borough of Brent's South Kilburn, adjacent to Camden and Westminster, is one of the most needy, not just of London, or even of the British Isles, but of Europe. This is recognised by Strasbourg. It is fortunate to have a sea cadet unit which goes back to 1942, but its building is in a sorry condition. With your help, this can change, and we can serve this community to the full extent that we have in the past with a vigourous and thriving unit and countless additional facilities for the local people of the area.
We are already £3,000 on our way to the £20,000 that we need for immediate urgent expenditure, and every £1 is gratefully received. Our registration with Giftaid means that we get back the tax that is paid on donations that go through the HMRC. The form to enable you to use this is here. If you would like to help the sea cadets and the project, please download this form, complete it (if you have any queries about it, email us) and send it to our address which is on it, (cheques made payable to "Willesden and St Marylebone Sea Cadet Corps") and send an email to email@example.com. You will make a real difference to the community in Kilburn as well as the cadets.
To raise funds, events are organised, and details will be posted here as they become available. Please call round and visit us most Saturdays between 12.00am and 3.00pm or contact us on firstname.lastname@example.org
Please email email@example.com and we will put you on our mailing list for information on events and news of what is going on or email firstname.lastname@example.org to join the "Friends of the Tin Tabernacle". If you wish to enquire about the sea cadets, please email email@example.com.
